John Fogerty Candid Black and White Photo (pic)

John Fogerty , originally uploaded by P.S.Zollo.

The Photographer writes:

"The legendary
John Fogerty. Taken backstage
at the Grammys, in which he
performed with Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. He also wrote the classic song "Proud Mary," which got a spirited performance this night by Tina Turner & Beyonce.

I have interviewed Fogerty -who has written so many classic songs for his band Creedence Clearwater Revival and also for his solo
albums. He's a guy who doesn't rush out an album if this songs
aren't there. He'd rather wait ten years to put out an album than release something not great.

I've been impressed how he can write an entire song,
such as "Green River" or "Commotion" all on one chord.

I happened to be hanging around the receiving area, where the big stars were arriving, when he came in with his wife. I said hi to him
and reminded him of our talk about songs with few chords.

He said, "Yeah, 'Born On The Bayou' is like that."

I asked him then if I could take a quick photo - though, of course,
there were big signs there that said NO PHOTOGRAPHY - and he seemed flustered and wasn't sure what to say and immediately
security came down on me and told me I couldn't be there (although this is where I took Honeyboy Edwards' portraits moments earlier)
and John and his wife walked off, smiling and I was told to move
along to the press room where I belonged.

But later he came in, and though I couldn't create the portrait I had hoped for, I did get a few, of which this is one. "
